The locals are truly laid back and welcoming to one and all. Visit one of the many museums to find out more about the Nahoon Footprints that were made by early man more than 200 000 years ago along the banks of the Buffalo River. Before the English settlers landed in South Africa the area was home to the Khoisan a nomadic bushman clan that were forced from the area and whose very existence is threatened today.

The endless plains of red earth will make you feel as though you are indeed just a very small person in a very big world. Although there may seem to be very little sign of life in this desert, it supports the largest ecosystem in South Africa. The Karoo supports the largest sheep farming community and produces the best lamb available on the market. The Great Karoo consists of the Klein Karoo and the Central Karoo, each existing in a different province of South Africa, and has been declared a National Park.
