Eastern Cape history goes back many years to when the area was still inhabited by the San Bushmen. Many traces of their history can be found in the form of rock paintings that one can still go and see today. The Eastern Cape is also the birth place of former president Nelson Mandela.

Although when looking back at Eastern Cape history today there seemed to have been much conflict, specifically during the years of apartheid, the region is now an ideal South African holiday location with a rich diversity of flora, fauna and other local activities to enjoy.
